Introduction and Rationale

According to the 2012 National Health Interview Survey on Americans' use of complementary, integrative and alternative medicine (CIAM) conducted by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and the National Center for Health Statistics (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), approximately 50% of the U.S population used CIAM approaches. Although there is a growing interest and use of CIAM approaches by the U.S. population, there is a lack of evidence about its safe use and efficacy in rehabilitation medicine. For this reason the Complementary and Integrative Rehabilitation Medicine (CIRM) Networking Group (NG) from the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) is conducting a survey to learn how rehabilitation professionals perceive, use, and practice CIAM. With your participation and help in this survey, we will be able to gather preliminary data to inform you on how to better develop evidence-based protocols and guidelines for CIAM in rehabilitation practice. The results will be analyzed and published in peer-reviewed journals and presented in meetings. Thank you again for your help!

*This anonymous Survey was developed by the executive committee from the ACRM CIRM NG and the study has been approved by a research ethics committee from the New York University School of Medicine (NYUSoM) Institutional Review Board (IRB Protocol s17-01072). Your participation is entirely voluntary, confidential, and anonymous. The possible risk of participation is no more than minimal. No personal identifiable information will be used or collected. Responding to some of the questions may cause temporary frustration. In addition, there may be some inconvenience, because participation will involve extra time. However, you can withdraw from completing the survey at any time, or skip questions you do not want to answer. Completing the survey implies consent.
